Recently, our organisation launched some borrowed technology such as Structural Pasteurization from the water treatment business. For a number of reasons, such as destroying mould or drying, structural pasteurisation involves heating a building or structure to a certain temperature for a specified period. The same idea was introduced by the pest control community and updated to take advantage of the one universal weakness encountered by both Bed Bugs and their eggs: they do not really withstand the heat. Night. Time. At about 113 degrees Fahrenheit, all bed bugs and their eggs die. Sounds reasonably fast, right? In theory and on paper, it’s pretty simple; lift the temperature to at least the lethal zone and, like tossing a magic wand, no more bugs or shells! It’s not that simple, and clearly there’s a lot more going into it like massive, precisely calibrated machinery and equipment, and not to mention the specialised training that any technician has to go through so that your building doesn’t burn down.
The point I’d like to make is simple: thermal therapy for bed bugs is far preferable to traditional therapies. In the past, we will contend with a combination of contaminants (none of which I would want my kids to sleep or sit on and all of which have formed a very good tolerance from bed bugs), steam bed frames and mattresses, high heat market wash and dry clothes. Then maybe we’d cross our fingers during our second or third visit and HOPE we’ve succeeded and eliminated every single bug. Often during this point, if you didn’t want your mattress or couches doused in chemicals, we would recommend that the polluted furniture be discarded and removed or, at least, invested in a proper mattress enclosure. These approaches were everything we had at our hands, but we could reach an average production rate of 60 per cent after several visits and after you charged us for those visits and restored the bad furniture with some caution.
Heat Treatments have increased the efficacy and usefulness of the removal of Bed Bugs. It is also quite interesting. We are learning from the Virus’s intrinsic interest. The Bugs are drawn into heat before they reach around 100 degrees in the atmosphere or vacuum. Our body temperature is about 100 degrees at around the same time. The bugs are possibly very tense when they know that their feeding time is about 100 degrees. They agree that there has to be a local host. Hypersensitive to their warm environment, the Bed Bugs fly around. What they do not know, though, is that the temperature rises and falls steadily. They don’t know something, they don’t understand they’re just minutes away from their doom. The temperature quickly touches or exceeds 113 degrees, or is otherwise referred to as the “the lethal point.” Our work does not stop there. Sleep bugs like all sorts of forms in which nests may be deposited. Far from the operation, places are protected. We manage to increase the room temperature to + /- 140 degrees with the assistance of high-speed air movers and push the heat into everything including the walls, ground, desks, benches, and any vacuum being done in the area. Sooner or later, there is clearly no place to escape and the lethal temperature will “soak” through it all.
